Whether photographing vendors and patrons in the busy public markets of Seattle or capturing the spectacular beauty of the remote jungles of Bali Indonesia, Mark has traveled to many parts of the world, capturing spectacular images to share with others.
Mark grew up on the shores of the Puget Sound in the small community of University Place, WA where he said there was never a shortage great material to inspire the imagination. “My passion has always been about capturing the moment and sharing it with others.” “I’ve been fortunate to have traveled extensively through most of North America and parts of Asia . The exciting part of my work is never knowing where I’m going to capture that next great image. It can be just around the corner or half way around the world. It can be the simple and the mundane captured in just the right light, or it can be something truly extraordinary and exotic. It’s all about how the image is captured.”
Having mastered several formats of film cameras over the last forty years or more, Mark recently turned his attention to digital photography. While initially reluctant he has to admit he is quickly becoming a convert to the digital age. “I was skeptical that digital photography could ever replace conventional film photography for serious photographers, but with resent advances, it’s becoming really close.” Add too it the convenience of being able to download photographs to his laptop from almost anywhere in the world, it’s easy to understand why it has become so popular with professional photographers and novice alike. “This is a remarkable technology and I feel that it’s an appropriate time to be making the investment and capitalizing on it, so I can better serve the needs of my client.
When asked what he enjoys photographing most, he said “the moment!” when asked to elaborate he went on to explain that he enjoys photographing a wide spectrum of subject from wedding and portraits to landscape and architectural photographs. However he gets the greatest satisfaction from capturing images that convey the mood and emotion of that precise moment in time. “In particular I enjoy photographing people.” I strive to capture an image in time that tells the world who that person is with a sense of depth and emotion, one that will serve to connect with future generations. “I think that sometimes it’s easier to know where were going, if we know from where we came.”
Simply put Mark says that for him photography is part science, part art, and all passion
